A few years after launch, Diablo 3 even came to Nintendo Switch, giving gamers the ability to play the game anywhere. In the past, Diablo releases were able to be played offline. For players who want to go through Diablo 4 solo, this is a bit of unfortunate news. Despite being able to play the game alone, players still have to connect to to play the game. Unfortunately, as of the time of writing, there is no offline play available in Diablo 4. Read on for the bad news about the ability to play Diablo 4 offline. It seems like this trend is continuing for Diablo IV as well. Blizzard has done this in the past with many multiplayer games as well. Increasingly more in recent years, video games have begun requiring an always online requirement, even for games that have single player modes. This isn’t a revolutionary concept, this is how PC gaming has been for 40 years.One of the biggest questions for one of the biggest games of 2023 has been players asking for a Diablo 4offline mode. Even Steam allows me to play games in offline mode. I remember when they started adding a online security checks for games such as Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, but that was only during startup to make sure you actually owned the game, but the constant online connection seems completely unnecessary. I’m hoping I can re-watch the cutscene when I get back into the game.
I got as far as the hermit cutscene after the first village and the Internet connection dropped right during the cutscene. I am able to play, but my Internet connection keeps dropping and I get kicked from the game. I’m guessing that is when a lot of changes to the franchise were made. I only played Diablo III for a few hours. The original Diablo I played offline exclusively from beginning to end. I remember they added multiplayer via LAN back in Diablo II, but I only played it that way once. I’ve always considered Diablo to be a single player RPG. I have a nice gaming laptop I use when I travel, so I haven’t had problems playing other game such as Crusader Kings III or Hogwarts Legacy (on high), so I didn’t anticipate having a problem running Diablo IV. No, I didn’t read the requirements before purchased it.
